I'm a graduate of Lake Nona High School, and currently a sophomore at Valencia College. Finding a great part time job is important for college students. However, flipping burgers or stocking shelves wasn't what I wanted to do.
So, with some help from my dad, I learned how to refurbish mailboxes, bringing them from sad to awesome. It's a great job, because I can work around my college schedule, and have work that I can take pride in. I hope I can do some work for you soon.
The mailbox is often the first impression people have of your home. That's why HOA's often send letters to homeowners about bad looking mailboxes. The Florida sun beats down, causing mailboxes to fade, chip and peel. Replacing the entire mailbox can cost hundreds of dollars, and isn't necessary. Refurbishment is the answer.
I start by removing all of the flaking paint, sanding down the surface to get it a smooth as possible. Once prepped, I paint the box with two coats of enamel paint. I repaint the flag, and then can add custom cut vinyl numbers, matched to the HOA requirements. After that, I apply a final coat of clear enamel to protect everything. Mailbox refurbishment will restore that great first impression to your property.
College Dude Mailbox Repair recently refurbished our 100th mailbox. A side hustle has turned into something that's allowing me to pay for college with no loans. Thank you so much to those who have trusted, hired and recommended me to their neighbors.

Here's what's needed to make your mailbox shine
Scrape, Sand and Repaint
Custom cut vinyl numbers

Depending on weather, heat and humidity, it can take up to 3 days to complete the refurbishment. High humidity causes the paint to dry very slowly, and I don't paint if we are expecting our usual afternoon rain showers. The mailbox has to be fully dry before I can add the vinyl numbers. So, I might take a couple of days, but it's done right
Your mailbox is going to look really nice. While I can't guarantee a car like finish, I do sand all the areas where I've removed loose paint. Your mailbox will be back to it's deep black color, with sharp gold letters. Just check out the before and after photos on the website.
A large part of my business is refurbishing mailboxes based on letters received from HOAs, threatening fines. Because I do quality work, and match the vinyl numbers to the HOA requirements, every single mailbox I've refurbished has passed inspection. If there are any concerns, I'm happy to talk with the HOA to discuss their requirements.
If it's something simple, like tightening the mailbox to the mount, or replacing a door latch or flag holder, I'll let you know if I can do it. But, there are things that I just can't repair. The high end mailboxes in our area often require replacement of broken or worn out parts. Set screws rust in place, and often, the original contractor cut some corners when installing. I can take a look and see if I can repair or straighten a leaning mailbox. I can often dig the pole out and re-concrete it. But, there are sometimes that the rust and years of sprinkler water contamination prevents me from being able to disassemble the mailbox. I'll let you know what I see when I take a look.
I accept cash, check, Venmo and Zelle.
I use high quality paint products, and apply multiple coats of clear enamel over the paint and numbers. This should protect your mailbox from the sun. However, everything eventually fades in the Florida sun, and reclaimed sprinkler water is full of minerals. I guarantee my work for one year (as long as the sprinklers are not directly spraying the mailbox). And after that, often all that is needed to bring the mailbox back is a cleaning and new coat of clear enamel.
I currently only service the Lake Nona / Narcoossee Corridor area. Outside of that area, it's just not cost effective for me, due to the multiple trips needed to finish a mailbox.
Yes, I'm really a college student. I schedule jobs around my classes and study time. That's why I communicate by text mostly. I do get help from my dad (who calls himself the "Unpaid Intern") when I get overloaded at school.
